Woman, or the whench or witch or die hexe as the germans would gennant it comes to life in this swiss/hungarian +++ dramatization based on the novel written in the 18th century by. Swiss writer jeremias gotthelf. Follows the life in a village in the 13th century, where superstition and religious mass psychosis were part of daily living. So when the midwife of the village makes a pact in secreto with the devil to save her kins, the heads will fall over heels and bonfires will be lit. A well acted, visual marvel of good european styled filmaking may be rewarded in tenfolds of the production costs, its very close to the novel and very few deviations has been made in the plot. Therefore the choice of locations and great scenery combined with very well embalmed vfx do catch my attention. Therefore a recommend from the grumpy old man.
